Today, November 6, 2009, President Obama signed a bill to extend the tax credit for first-time homebuyers (FTHBs) through June 30, 2010. The bill also opens up opportunities for others who are not buying a home for the first time. Although I have been a supporter of extending the tax credit, I was surprised that the Congress actually got it done. Not only that, but the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit has been expanded.

Yes, it is still a question as to whether or not the Congress will extend the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit. Hopefully we will know soon. Right now, we are waiting for the House to pass something and then for a conference committee to find common ground on what, if any, extension will be coming through and then for the President to sign the new legislation.

I subscribe to Barry Habib’s Mortgage Market Guide and he has often given me some insight into what is happening in the mortgage market that I was unable to find elsewhere.
