Oregon’s Crater Lake Open For Winter Fun
Crater Lake National Park, Oregon’s only national park, is offering ranger-guided snowshoe walks to explore the winter wonderland around the park, according to their December Newsletter. To make it even better, the snowshoes are provided and entrance is free. Oregon is a state of many areas, from our mountains (check out my heading) to the ocean, to valleys rich with produce to high desert where even the jack rabbits carry a canteen and a bail of hay.

There are many activities planned for Crater Lake this winter. I just found out an interesting fact about the lake. Did you know that Crater Lake very seldom freezes? The last time the entire lake froze was in 1948. Also, according to their website, the lake has the purest water on earth. They are also sponsoring a Winter Artist in Residence program for winter 2010. The program provides an opportunity for two artist to spend up to two weeks of the winter between March 1 and April 15, 2010 at the park working on their art. Application are due by Jan. 15, 2010. Find out more information here.
