At Home with the Pack
Life changed for me a short time ago when my son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and grandson moved in with me as my son goes back to school for training in the medical field. This has be a good change for me as it was just me and two little dogs and a part time roommate around my home.
When I say things changed, they really have. I now help the grandchildren get ready for school two days a week. My turn at cooking dinner comes about every third day and it isn’t as quiet as it was. Also, the rug moves a lot. With my son’s family, came three pretty large dogs, Weezie (Rottweiler mix), Pepper (Lab mix) and Aegis (Great Dane). They have become a pack with my Poodle (Peanut) and Shi-tzu (Gracie).
Here are the extended family of dogs.
From left to right are Weezie, Pepper, Gracie, Peanut and Aegis with Steven (son, not one of the dogs) with their rapt attention. He is holding a treat in his hand and they all want it. The animal dynamics has been fun to watch. Peanut was in charge before they all showed up but Weezie and Pepper don’t think they will follow her lead. Aegis is still a bit intimidated by her. Gracie just wants to be part of everything and nothing scares her.
Gage, my grandson seems to be on permanent poop patrol and is doing a good job of keeping the fertilizer content down. Everyone has their jobs and it is a lot of fun living in the extended family unit. We could use a bit more room, but all things considered, it is a great way to live. I recommend it to all of the grandfathers out there. Be open. You know there are three stages of your life: when the kids are home with you, when the kids leave and when the kids come back, lol. It is great to have them to take care of me now. Especially since I officially become old tomorrow and qualify for social security.
I hope everyone enjoys this little essay on the joys of family living. If you ever want to know more, call me, I am always near my phone.
